What would a Sunday morning be without a lake check? Our banding is off for the Summer so, why not? Over at Lake Lancaster where the Spotted Sandpiper was yesterday was an Osprey standing in the water. They are a fish eating bird so no chance it ate that tiny bird.
Closer to shore, a juvenile Little Blue Heron searches for a meal.
For some reason, I was getting a feeling I should head over to the church and see if anything was in the retention ponds after the rain. The smaller pond next to the parking lot was full of Wood Ducks but not much else.
Over at the larger pond I spotted the usual suspects. Herons, Mallards, Common Gallinule. Plus, a splash of pink on the grass. A Roseate Spoonbill! The second individual in the past couple of weeks!! It never changed this position, though.
Perhaps it will still be around tomorrow for a better angle.
