Time to run down to the lake to see how the Killdeer are faring. Momma is still snug on the nest.
I was worried about the possibility of dogs trampling the site but had forgotten another risk. Neighborhood cats! Just 20 yards away was one of them scoping out the feeding blackbirds and shorebirds.
The feline didn't deter a breeding plumed Tri-colored Heron from flying in as I monitored the situation.
So many dangers in the world. However, I did remember that the lake ducks seem to breed families well enough so maybe there is hope for the Killdeer, afterall.
