Western Palm Warbler

Since it is getting close to the time last year when the Yellow-headed Blackbird arrived in Orlando (see the post back in the archives for March 2008) I headed to the spot to check on the unlikely return of the bird.

Nope. Not there.

I did find a nice little Palm Warbler there in the nearby oaks, though.

Western Palm Warbler

It was feeding like crazy. In fact, as I exited the van it flew down an caught an insect that was right over my head before returning to the branches.

It was no doubt foraging for every last bite before heading back north soon.

We will miss them until next Fall.

Indigo Bunting

I have been hearing a new chipping sound out back. Thought for sure that it was some type of sparrow but I swore I had seen a streak of blue two days ago.

This morning I noticed a small shape hopping through the Fire Spikes. The bird finally came out into the open and revealed itself as a molting male Indigo Bunting! This is the only photo I could get from inside the house. It flew off as soon as the door opened.

Indigo Bunting

Don't usually have them visit the yard but the sounds I have been hearing tell me that it has been here for at least a week. Hope it sticks around for some better shots.

Banding at the Wetlands

We were part of the Orlando Wetlands festival again this year. This time, though, they parked all of the vendors at nearby Fort Christmas.

To see my other blog about the day head here.

Cold Equals Few Birds

Hard to believe I haven't had any birding fun in weeks. Cold fronts have been really making the weather filp-flop erratically. Bird numbers are low and I have been busy, anyway.

Hoping that this latest cold air will be near the end for us. It finally got so cold that the bird baths froze.
